Sorry folks, we have a problem with polls. I am investigating but in the meantime please record your vote in a post.

For a short holiday (up to a week) I'd stay in one place unless there was only one road worth riding in the area. This way you're not carrying all your luggage when riding 'interesting' roads. For longer holidays I'd be tempted to use two bases.

Have done Wales and Ireland, staying at different places each night. Personally, I loved it.

Scotland is the next project for me :D

Depends what sort of riding you're doing. My personal preference is to pick a base and explore from there, usually somewhere literally middle of nowhere, and with some good bendys nearby. And I'll usually do it in a way that gives me time to do things I like, so say a 6 day trip, I'd take 4 different routes which look good, use one day per route, and explore other roads nearby, and on one day I'll redo my favorite, the 6th day will be used for local stuff, maybe getting a meal, going sky diving or whatever takes your fancy :D
